The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has halted trading in the shares of HFCB Group Plc for Thursday’s trading session after the company released its financial results during trading hours.

In a statement issued on August 27, the NSE said the release of the results during trading hours was contrary to the Regulation of the Capital Markets Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures Regulations, 2023.

“The Nairobi Securities Exchange Plc (NSE) wishes to notify investors and the public that it has halted trading in the shares of HFCB Group Plc for today’s trading session, following the release of the Company’s financial results during trading hours, contrary to Regulation 89(4) of the Capital Markets (Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023,” read part of the statement.

The NSE halted trading under the NSE Trading Rules for Equity Securities, with approval from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).

The move is intended to give investors and other market participants time to receive and assess the information in an orderly manner.

Investors and market participants have been advised to take note of the trading halt.

HFCB Group Announces Its Financials During NSE Trading Hours

NSE trading halt came after HFCB Group reported a 74 percent increase in profit before tax to Ksh1.22 billion for the six months ended June 2026, up from Ksh703 million recorded during the same period last year.

The Group’s total operating income rose by 32 percent to Ksh3.8 billion, supported by a 29 percent increase in net interest income to Ksh2.64 billion and a 37 percent rise in non-funded income to Ksh1.16 billion.

According to the group, the increase in non-funded income was supported by higher transaction volumes, increased fees, and more revenue sources.

Operating costs increased by 18 percent, mainly due to higher staff costs as HFCB expanded its frontline workforce to support business growth.

The Group’s total assets grew by 22 percent to Ksh94.04 billion, while customer deposits increased by 31 percent to Ksh68.97 billion.

HFCB attributed the deposit growth to continued customer confidence and a stronger funding base.

“These results reflect the disciplined execution of our strategy, with strong growth across both funded and non-funded income while maintaining a firm focus on efficiency. We are building a more diversified and resilient earnings base that positions our business for sustainable growth,” said HFCB Group Chief Executive Officer Robert Kibaara.

Absa Suspended From Trading

On August 19, 2026, NSE also temporarily halted trading in Absa Bank Kenya Plc shares from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to facilitate the orderly execution and settlement of a major block transaction.

NSE said the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) approved the temporary suspension, which was carried out under Clause 9.4.2(c) of the NSE Equity Trading Rules.

The exchange said the halt was intended to facilitate the transaction without disrupting normal market activity.

Trading in Absa Bank Kenya shares resumed at 11:00 a.m. after the temporary suspension ended.

“The Nairobi Securities Exchange Plc (NSE) wishes to notify investors and the general public that, pursuant to Clause 9.4.2(c) of the NSE Equity Trading Rules, and with the approval of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), trading in the ordinary shares of Absa Bank Kenya Plc will be temporarily halted on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.,” the NSE stated.
