Safaricom has taken a major step in its digital evolution by unveiling an AI-powered app that combines the MySafaricom and M-Pesa apps.
The announcement was made during day two of Safaricom’s Decode 4.0 summit in Nairobi, where the teleco emphasized its commitment to embracing AI and digital innovation.
Speaking at the summit, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said that the company is an intelligence infrastructure that embraces digital innovation.
“We are no longer just a telco. We are becoming a technology company building the intelligent digital infrastructure that will power Kenya’s future,” said Peter Ndegwa.
The annual summit brings together developers, industry leaders, and technology partners to shape Kenya’s digital future and highlight practical applications of emerging technologies, such as AI, in real-world systems.
Safaricom aims to ease access and avoid multiple app downloads to access different services from one provider.
“Our role is to bring businesses and consumers together so that we can solve problems and enable a fantastic lifestyle,” said Safaricom Chief Financial Services Officer Esther Waititu.

Features of the New Safaricom App
The new app, called My OneApp, uses AI-driven personalization to enhance the user experience by learning customer behavior over time.
It adapts to transaction frequency, preferred contacts, recurring payments, and commonly used services, ensuring frequently accessed features like investments, lending, and bill payments automatically appear on the home screen.
“The more you use the app, the more it learns you. It’s not just convergence, it’s personal,” added Waititu
Users can customize quick actions, automate bill payments, manage favorite services, and access tailored bundles from a single dashboard.
Security and convenience are strengthened through biometric authentication, fraud reporting, PIN recovery, and network diagnostics, all without needing USSD codes or contact center support.

My OneApp also incorporates Safaricom’s suite of financial services directly into the user journey.
Customers can invest in money market funds via Ziidi, trade shares through CD Trader, access Fuliza credit, separate business income using Pochi la Biashara, and purchase device or income-protection insurance products.
It also offers entertainment services such as Baze, gaming, news access, and third-party mini-app integrations, which the executives describe as a “digital lifestyle ecosystem.”
The redesigned platform is currently available in an Early Access/Pilot phase on the Google Play Store for Android users, and for IOS, will be available soon, allowing Safaricom to collect user feedback and refine the experience before a wider public rollout.
