Safaricom’s Ziidi investment platform has received global recognition after winning the Best Fintech and Digital Commerce Innovation Award at the 2026 Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) held during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
The platform was recognized for expanding access to investment opportunities through mobile technology and enabling more Kenyans to participate in capital markets easily and securely.
The award places the Kenyan telecommunications giant among leading global innovators shaping the future of digital financial services.

The Global Mobile Awards, widely known as the GLOMOs, celebrate the most innovative companies, products, and technologies in the mobile industry worldwide.

Safaricom’s Ziidi Investment Platform was selected from a competitive shortlist of five finalists.
The money market fund was recognized for its ability to access investment opportunities through mobile technology, empowering Kenyans to save and participate in capital markets easily and securely.

Through Ziidi, customers can seamlessly move from saving money to investing it in regulated financial products.
Ziidi Trader enables users to invest conveniently on their phones, a move expected to foster a stronger culture of saving and wealth creation across Kenya.
The recognition also highlights the growing influence of Kenyan fintech innovations on the global stage, with mobile-based financial services continuing to reshape how people access banking and investment services.
Safaricom Marks Milestone as M-PESA Turns 19
According to Safaricom, the global recognition comes at a significant time as M-PESA marks 19 years since its launch.
Safaricom’s Chief Corporate and External Affairs Officer, Stephen Chege, said the award reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to create meaningful financial opportunities for its customers.
“As we mark 19 years of M-PESA, this milestone underscores our journey from enabling simple money transfers to providing a comprehensive digital financial ecosystem that supports savings, credit, payments, and now investments,” Stated Stephen Chege.
Safaricom has previously received multiple GLOMO awards, including recognition for the M-PESA Super App and the BLAZE DigiTruck in 2022, as well as earlier awards for DigiFarm in contribution to the mobile industry.
Huawei Partnership in Supporting Fintech Innovation
Safaricom has stated that Ziidi Investment Platform has also been supported by technology partnerships.
Huawei has served as a foundational technology partner in enabling Fintech 2.0 through next-generation digital rails that support real-time processing, strengthened security, and the rapid rollout of new financial products.

This has allowed Safaricom to build and scale the innovative suite of solutions available on the Ziidi Investment Platform, expanding access to inclusive and technology-driven wealth creation.
Ziidi Money Market Fund
Safaricom first launched the Ziidi MMF in December 2024 in partnership with Standard Investment Bank and ALA Capital Limited, allowing M-PESA customers to begin investing with as little as Ksh100 while earning competitive daily interest.
All deposits and withdrawals are executed directly through M-PESA, with invested funds remaining easily accessible to users.
Since its launch, the fund has grown rapidly, reflecting rising demand for simple, mobile-based investment solutions among retail investors. For the half-year period ending June 30, 2025, the Ziidi MMF reported total investment income of Ksh354.36 million.
Interest income from fixed deposits stood at Ksh194.31 million, followed by Ksh86.34 million from government securities, Ksh73.34 million from call deposits, and Ksh7.96 million from corporate bonds.
