President William Ruto on Tuesday delegated more roles to his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to “keep him busy”.
“As I promised, my deputy is going to be a very busy person,” Ruto said in a statement at State House, Nairobi ahead of the unveiling members of his cabinet.
The President said he will send an executive order for print to assign the DP very clear responsibilities.
Ruto said the move will help him discharge his responsibilities as President in accordance with the Constitution.
Among Gachagua’s roles is to deputise the President in executing all presidential functions stipulated by the law.
At the same time,the DP will also chair Cabinet committees and oversee implementation of cabinet decisions across all ministries and departments.
Additionally,Gachagua will coordinate intergovernmental relations between the national government and county governments.
This will include chairing the intergovernmental budget and economic council (IBEC).
He will also be the liaison between the constitutional commissions and independent offices in matters that require government intervention including budgets, policy formation and implementation of their recommendations.
The DP will handle coordination of planning and supervision of development partners funded programmes and projects.
Gachagua will also oversee public sector reforms and other functions the President may assign him from time to time.
