A Kenyan woman was Friday May 16 arrested at Mumbai Airport for smuggling liquid Cocaine worth Rs 15.71 crore from Addis Ababa. The worth is estimated to be Ksh 246 million.
According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) investigation of the baggage of a passenger, a recovery of 1571 grams (gross weight) of viscous liquid substances in two moisturizing lotion bottles.
Authorities further stated that the substance tested positive for the presence of cocaine.
“The modus operandi involved concealing liquid cocaine in moisturizing lotion bottles, as the viscous appearance of the substance closely resembled that of actual lotion,” said a DRI official.
The substance was found in two bottles of moisturizing lotion recovered from her luggage at the Mumbai international airport on Friday by the Mumbai unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
DRI’s efforts are coming up with unique modus operandi, as this shows the agency’s commitment towards achieving the goal of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’, the source said.

However, this is not the first time a Kenyan nationalist has been arrested in foreign countries smuggling narcotics.
Kenyans Arrested Over Drug Trafficking
Margaret Nduta Macharia was arrested in July 2023 in Vietnam for smuggling over two kilograms of cocaine.
She was sentenced to death in March 2025, but later, the Kenyan Government intervened for his survival
On the other hand, Floviance Owino was apprehended in May 2013 at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, China, for drug smuggling.

Initially sentenced to death, her execution was suspended for two years pending a review, with indications that her sentence may have been commuted to life imprisonment.
Also, in 2017, Rose Achieng Ojala was sentenced to death in Malaysia after being found guilty of trafficking approximately 400 grams of methamphetamine. She had ingested 68 capsules and concealed three more in her underwear.
