More details have emerged in the case of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper after Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki revealed how a suspect in his case lured him to a meeting moments before his death.
In his submissions before a Senate session, Kindiki said Sniper was at his home on December 2, 2023, when he received a call from a man named Vincent Mureithi alias Supuu.
According to Kindiki, the caller asked Sniper to attend a meeting town to reportedly make amends with Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Key on the agenda of the meeting, Kindiki added, was to discuss the differences between Sniper and the Governor with an aim of ending his frequent social media attacks.
“On December 2nd, 2023, the deceased was at his home when he received a call from one Vincent Mureithi alias supuu, who requested to meet with him at Meru town to attend an alleged meeting with the governor of Meru County to discuss their differences, so that the deceased could stop attacking her on social media,” he said.
“Upon arrival at Meru town, he was abducted and driven to Mutonga river in an area called Chakariga in Tharaka Nithi county, he was killed and his body thrown into river Mutonga at a place called Mutonga bridge, where that body remained for several days undiscovered.”
After noticing his disappearance, the family reported him missing at Maua Police Station where they filed a report under police file number CR434295/2023 prompting immediate investigations to commence.
Investigations placed five accused persons at the scene of the abduction namely Vincent Mureithi Kirimi, Kenneth Murangiri Guantai, Christus Manyara Kiambe, Brian Mwenda and Boniface Kithinji Njuiya.
The five individuals were in the company of the deceased from Meru town all the way to Mutonga river, where the body was later found dumped.

Additionally, investigations revealed that Kenneth Murangiri Guantai maintained constant communication with Vincent Mureithi alias “supuu” during the period of luring the deceased, abduction and disposal of the body.
Thereafter he reportedly met Vincent and the other accused persons at Makutano suburb of Meru County after the execution of the crime.
Kindiki Discloses More Details of Sniper’s Murder
On December 6, 2023, the body of the deceased was found by a resident of the Karikithi area at a location where the locals fetched water, known as Majarani. The resident promptly reported the discovery to the local police station.
Kindiki mentioned that the police promptly responded to the disclosure and visited the scene.
“Police officers from Chiakariga police station and DCI from Tharaka South visited the scene and the unknown deceased body which had some visible injuries was retrieved from the scene the river Mutonga on 7th December 2023,” said Kindiki.

Subsequently, the body was taken to Marimanti level 4 hospital mortuary located in Tharaka Nithi county where the crime happened for preservation pending identification and postmortem.
On December 18, 2023, the relatives of the deceased successfully identified the body as that of their kin, Daniel Muthiani Bernard, also known as “Sniper.”
On the same day, detectives from the Homicide Investigations Unit in Nairobi took over the investigation from the local police.
