President William Ruto broke his silence on the brutal murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
Addressing a rally in Meru County on Friday, January 26, 2024, Ruto stated that the government had already taken up on the matter, promising that justice would be served.
“I want to assure you that the case of Sniper, the government has ordered that those who murdered him must be found and brought to justice,” he said.
The Head of State went on to emphasize that the government would not tolerate increasing cases of Kenyans losing their lives through murder.
Ruto was responding to a plea from Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi who called for Sniper’s justice.

The case took new twists since he was first reported missing in December 2023.
Muthiani allegedly received a call on the day of his disappearance from a well-known acquaintance who wanted him to meet a politician.
However, he only confirmed his arrival at the destination to his wife, marking their last conversation.
Since then, his phone was switched off and no information of his whereabouts was forthcoming until December 17 when he was found dead.
Murder probe
Following public outcry, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) preferred murder charges against suspects who were arrested.
Also, on January 19, 2024, ODPP announced that it had found sufficient ground to charge suspects arrested in connection to the murder.
They included governor Mwangaza’s brother Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali and Vincent Mureithi Kirimi alias Supuu.
In a statement on Friday, January 19, governor Kawira Mwangaza explained that her family was ready to cooperate with investigators.

“My family and I have released a statement this afternoon, expressing our stance on the ongoing public interest matter of seeking justice for the deceased,” read part of the statement.
However, the governor noted that the family was concerned with how the public interest matter of seeking justice for sniper had been politicized.
