The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has constituted a team of senior prosecutors to guide investigations into the mysterious death of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani known as ‘Sniper”.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 1, ODPP assured that the perpetrators behind his death will be held accountable regardless of their status.
According to the prosecution office, a suspect named Vincent Murithi alias Supuu had already been arraigned in court on January 2 in Kiambu County.
The suspect, ODPP added, was to remain in custody until January 8 when the magistrate court in Kiambu will rule on a request by the prosecution side to hold him for 21 days.
Additionally, the Renson Igonga-led office noted that it had directed the Inspector General of Police to forward the findings of insetigations into the murder within seven days.
“In addition, pursuant to the provisions of Article 157 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, the DPP has directed the Inspector General of the National Police Service to forward the resultant Murder Inquiry File to his Office within Seven (7) days from the date hereof,” added the statement.
ODPP Gives More Updates
Meanwhile, the ODPP confirmed that the death of Sniper was caused by Asphyxia- a condition where the body is deprived of oxygen, after manual strangulation.

In its statement, the office said it will review the facts and evidence in line with the Constitution of Kenya, the ODPP Decision to Charge Guidelines of 2019 together with the relevant laws and issue appropriate directions concerning the matter.
Sniper Murdered After Disappearance
The news about Sniper’s death broke back in December 2023 when Abogeta Member of County Assembly in Meru County shared the information.
According to reports, the deceased was set to meet with Meru County Leadership on Saturday, December 2, 2023, when he was reported missing.

Muthiani allegedly received a call on the day of his disappearance from a well-known acquaintance who wanted him to meet a politician.
However, he only confirmed his arrival at the destination to his wife, marking the last conversation between the couple.
Since then, his phone was switched off and no information of his whereabouts was forthcoming until December 17 when he was found dead.
