India has offered to supply mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to support operations against terrorist groups.
According to a report published by Indian defence news outlet IDRW on October 15, India’s Ministry of Defence made the offer during recent engagements with a visiting Kenyan military delegation.
The offer comes as Kenya explores options to expand its military equipment acquisitions.
“India’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) has offered a visiting delegation from the Kenya Defence Forces in recent months to supply mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles for operations against terror groups, as Kenya is looking to expand its procurements,” read part of the report.
India Makes Military Vehicle Offer to Kenya
According to IDRW, the vehicles are designed to protect troops against landmines, improvised explosive devices and ambush attacks, making them suitable for military operations in areas affected by terrorist activity.
The news outlets noted that India’s proposal comes as it seeks to expand its defence exports to African countries, where Chinese-made military equipment has gained ground partly due to competitive prices and government-backed financing arrangements.
Indian state-owned and private-sector companies manufacture various armoured vehicles, including platforms designed to withstand mine blasts and roadside attacks.
IDRW further reported that the KDF delegation was shown some of the vehicles for possible evaluation.
India is also seeking to improve access to its defence products in African markets through financing arrangements and faster export clearance procedures, according to the report.
Among the vehicles promoted by India is the Medium Bullet-Proof Vehicle manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).

KDF and India Partnerships
Kenya and India have maintained defence cooperation through a Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the BAHARI Maritime Vision Document and regular bilateral military engagements.
The partnership covers military training and professional education, with KDF personnel attending courses at Indian institutions, including the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad and the Army War College in Mhow.
In October 2026, a KDF delegation also visited India to study programmes that could guide the establishment of a Joint War College in Kenya.

The two countries also cooperate on maritime security in the Indian Ocean region under the BAHARI Maritime Vision.
Their engagements include Indian Navy visits to Mombasa, naval training and exchanges between senior military officials.
Defence industry collaboration is another area of the partnership. In January 2026, the two countries held the third India–Kenya Defence Industry Seminar and Expo in Nairobi to explore opportunities for equipment cooperation, joint ventures and technology transfer.
The partnership is reviewed through regular institutional engagements, including meetings of the India–Kenya Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC), joint defence working groups and visits by senior military officials from both countries.
