The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested Militonic Mwendwa Kitute, a politician who has been allegedly extorting money from jobless Kenyans while impersonating officials from the agency.
EACC said its officers arrested Mwendwa following preliminary investigations into numerous complaints from members of the public.
In a statement on Monday, April 22, the commission confirmed the arrest and the recovery of a gun suspected to be unlicensed, seven mobile phones and three laptops.
“The suspect was arrested in Kitui on Saturday, 20th April 2024 while attempting to flee from Nairobi after discovering that EACC officers were pursuing him,” read part of a statement.
“During the arrest, the Commission found him in possession of a Pistol (Glock 19 Gen4), 7 high end mobile phones and 3 laptops, all believed to be part of the tools that he uses to defraud his victims. Investigations to establish the status of the firearm are ongoing.”
The suspected fraudster contested for the Kitui East National Assembly seat in the 2022 General Election, which he nearly won having garnered about 200 votes less than the eventual winner.
He has also served as a Political Advisor and Personal Aide to a former Governor.
