A Catholic church in Kiambu County on Sunday, May 5, 2024, allowed a unique ceremony to take place officiating the wedding of a polygamous man.
The groom Patrick Ndachu wedded his first wife in holy matrimony in the presence of his second wife Dina, who was among the congregation witnessing the union.
The second wife is said to have agreed to this arrangement providing Ndachu writes a will dividing his wealth amongst his two families.
Ndachu and his first wife Margaret Nyokabi initially got married in the 1970s and have stayed together for over four decades.
They started a family before he later married Dina as his second wife whom he also had children with.

Why the Polygamous Man Decided to Wed
The church said the groom, Patrick, had the desire to go back to church to partake off the sacrament and also admired having a church wedding.
Given that the Catholic church does not allow the polygamous union solemnized in church, the two wives had to agree on who should tie the knot in church with the husband.
Luckily enough, the first wife Margaret was chosen, and the wedding plans had to proceed as planned earlier.
“The first wife was still there. He went around, got another one had children. He came back to the first. They all agreed that he picks one and he picked one,” the bishop stated.
However, the Church noted that it took five years to obtain clearance for the wedding to take place.
Likewise, Dina explained that the wedding took place after the agreement on the distribution of wealth among them was reached.

“We called each other, and sat down, and he decided to distribute his wealth. He gave me my share and also gave the other wife her share,” Dina the second wife said.
Patrick Ndachu Acknowledges Being in a Polygamous Marriage
Ndachu remarks that he decided to publicly announce his marriage after witnessing many scenarios where women and children are only acknowledged when a man is in critical condition or deceased.
“In church, it is not allowed to marry two wives. But when we are outside, I will announce to the world that I have two wives and I love them all,” Ndachu said.
“I did not want to hide anything. I asked them to allow me to have a wedding and they all agreed.”
