Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a 650-bed hospital equipped with modern medical equipment.

The hospital sits on a 100-acre parcel of land in the northwestern part of Kenyatta University. It borders Kahawa Barracks to the north, the Northern Bypass to the east, and Kenyatta University to the south. Its main entrance is located along the Northern Bypass near Kahawa West.

In addition to general medical services, KUTRRH offers specialized care through its oncology and cancer unit, trauma and orthopedics services, and renal unit.

KUTRRH also uses telemedicine to enable doctors to consult specialists outside the country in real time, particularly in cases requiring expertise that may not be readily available locally.

KUTRRH History and Construction

KUTRRH opened its doors to patients in October 2019 before it was officially commissioned by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta on September 10, 2020.

The hospital was established to provide specialized medical services locally and reduce the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.

Its specialized facilities include an oncology center and an Integrated Molecular Imaging Center (IMIC).

In February 2024, KUTRRH conducted its first non-invasive cancer treatment using an ultra-CyberKnife system, which the hospital described as the first such procedure in East Africa.

In May 2025, the hospital also carried out its first kidney transplant procedures, marking another milestone in its specialized medical services.
