Investigation into the abduction of Mombasa based blogger Bruce John Khajira, alias Chawa – 001A, has taken a new twist following an arrest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
DCI in a statement on Thursday November 8 said that man who police describe as a main suspect in the abduction and assault incident which happened on September 12 was arrested at the Lunga Lunga border while trying to flee to Tanzania.
Detectives said the suspect known by his moniker as “Nyanya” has been on the run for months.
“His arrest today is a culmination of days and nights of vigilance by duty-bound detectives working jointly with the Immigration Department, who were privy to the plans by the masterminds to sneak out of the country all those implicated in the perversion,” said DCI.
In the painstaking investigation conducted by a select team of DCI detectives, Nyanya was forensically placed at both the primary and secondary scenes of the incident.
This was besides being in constant communication with other known perpetrators before, during and after the incident.
Detectives at the Digital Forensics Lab notably identified the motor vehicle in which the victim was bundled from his house to the scene as a Nissan Note make, grey in color.

According to DCI, the vehicle had been hired by Nyanya on August 20, 2024, and returned on September 12 in the evening after the gang completed their mission. The car has since been intercepted and detained.

The directorate further revealed that crime researchers were also able to forensically place the said car at the primary scene (where the victim was sexually assaulted) at a County Government of Mombasa construction site within the Bonje Area for about two hours.
This is before revving to Mwakirunge area where Chawa was dumped.
DCI has asserted that with the suspect now in custody and undergoing interrogation, it is just a matter of time before anyone else involved is brought before the firm grip of the law.
“Several accomplices have since been identified and are holing up in various parts of the country, and the DCI calls upon them to surrender at any police station or DCI offices,” added DCI.
The arrest comes following the earlier arrests of four people who have already been charged with abduction, gang rape and assault of the blogger.

The four were charged at the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa County on September 24 where they denied the charges before Senior Resident Magistrate Robert Mbogo.
On his part, Mombasa County Lands Executive Hussein Mohamed who had also been arrested in connection to the assault was granted a Ksh1 million anticipatory bond with strict conditions over the issue.
This is as he waits to know whether he will be charged over the matter or not.
Assault of Chawa
Blogger Chawa alleges that a group of about 20 people abducted him at his home in Bamburi Mwisho, assaulted and sodomised him at Miritini area before dumping him near the Mwakirunge dumpsite.

He added that his attackers broke into his house and demanded that he accompany them to an unknown place to apologize for allegedly criticizing Mombasa County governor and his family.
“They claimed they would return me home later,” the victim said.
But that was never to be, as the victim was allegedly taken to a hotel and bundled into a private car. His hands and legs were allegedly bound.
The victim was then wrapped in a sack and taken to Miritini area where he claims he was assaulted and sodomised by two unknown people.
Chawa was later taken to Mwakirunge wrapped in a sack and was rescued by a Good Samaritan who assisted him by rushing him to a medical facility for treatment after hours of questioning.
