The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) has announced that the High Court has dismissed an objection filed by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
In a notice on July 9, KIM said the court’s decision reaffirmed that the institution remains operational under existing court orders.
According to the notice, the High Court dismissed TVETA’s objection against the institute on July 9.
“The ruling affirms that the Kenya Institute of Management remains operational by virtue of the orders issued by the Honourable Court on 22nd April 2026,” the institute said.
KIM assured its students, stakeholders and members of the public that its operations would continue uninterrupted while the matter proceeds through the judicial process.
The institution said it remains committed to serving its learners and stakeholders in line with the court’s directives.
“We wish to assure our stakeholders that we remain committed to serving them and will continue to operate in accordance with the Court’s directives as the matter proceeds through the judicial process,” the notice stated.
KIM also thanked its students and stakeholders for their continued trust, patience and support during the ongoing legal proceedings.
The institute added that any further developments regarding the case would be communicated through its official communication channels.

Court Earlier Suspends Closure of KIM by TVETA
The High Court earlier suspended TVETA’s decision to revoke the KIM’s accreditation and shut down its campuses, allowing the institution to continue operating until the case is heard and determined.
The institution moved to court after challenging the regulator’s decision, arguing that the closure was unlawful, unjustified and would unfairly affect the institution, its students and other parties who rely on its services.
On April 22, Justice Musyoka of the Milimani High Court certified the application as urgent and granted KIM permission to institute judicial review proceedings against TVETA’s decision.
The court further ordered that the leave granted would act as a stay of the regulator’s decision, suspending the revocation of KIM’s accreditation and the closure of its campuses until the matter is fully determined.
In his ruling, Justice Musyoka said he had considered the certificate of urgency, the chamber summons, the statutory statement, the verifying affidavit and all supporting documents before issuing the orders.
The judge also granted the institution leave to seek judicial review to quash TVETA’s decision to revoke its accreditation, while maintaining the temporary suspension of the closure orders pending the hearing of the case.
The matter was subsequently scheduled for mention on April 29 for further directions from the court.
Why TVETA Ordered Closure
TVETA said its investigations established that the KIM had been offering and issuing academic and professional qualifications without the required accreditation.

According to the authority, KIM had initially been authorized to offer only programmes assessed and certified by the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET-CDACC). However, it alleged that the institution later expanded to programmes that had not received the necessary approval.
The regulator also accused KIM of violating the TVET Act by offering unapproved courses and issuing academic qualifications without legal authorization, contrary to Section 17(3).
In addition, TVETA claimed the institution had engaged trainers who lacked valid practicing licences, contrary to Section 23(1) of the Act.
The authority argued that the alleged violations threatened the credibility of the country’s TVET system and weakened the quality-assurance measures meant to protect students, employers, and the education sector.
