The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has revoked the accreditation of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and ordered the immediate closure of all its campuses across Kenya.
In a notice dated April 20 2026 issued under the TVET Act (Cap 210A), the regulator accused the institution of operating beyond its approved mandate and awarding unrecognized qualifications.
“It has come to the attention of the Authority that the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) is offering and awarding various academic and professional programmes to members of the public without accreditation. KIM was accredited to offer programmes assessed and certified by TVET-CDACC,” the statement read.
The decision effectively bars the institution from continuing training activities and invalidates qualifications issued outside its accredited scope.

Alleged Violations and Regulatory Findings
According to the notice, TVETA found that the Kenya Institute of Management had been offering and awarding academic and professional qualifications without proper accreditation.
The authority stated that the institution was originally permitted to offer only programs assessed and certified by TVET-CDACC, but had unlawfully expanded its operations.
The regulator further highlighted two key breaches of the law. First, it said the institution had been offering programs that were not approved and awarding academic qualifications in violation of Section 17(3) of the TVET Act.
Second, it found that KIM had engaged trainers who did not hold valid training licenses as required under Section 23(1) of the same Act.
TVETA emphasized that these breaches compromised the integrity of the national training framework and undermined quality-assurance standards intended to protect learners and employers.
Revocation of Accreditation and Immediate Closure Order
In its directive, TVETA confirmed that it had formally withdrawn the institution’s accreditation and ordered the immediate shutdown of all campuses.
The decision was made under Sections 36 and 37 of the TVET Act.
“Pursuant to Section 36 and 37 of the TVET Act the accreditation earlier issued to KIM and all its campuses in the Republic of Kenya has been revoked and all KIM campus closed with immediate effect,” the notice read.
The authority added that the institution no longer has legal authority to operate or award qualifications. It also instructed all campuses to cease operations immediately, marking one of the most sweeping enforcement actions taken in Kenya’s vocational education sector in recent years.

Status of Qualifications and Public Advisory
TVETA also issued warning to the public regarding the validity of certificates issued by the institution.
The regulator stated that KIM lacks the legal mandate to award qualifications and that any academic or professional certificates issued after 2018 are not recognized.
“The public is hereby notified that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications. Consequently, any certificates, diplomas, or other qualifications obtained from the institution beyond 2018 are not recognized for purposes of employment, further education, or professional advancement,” added TVETA
Members of the public have been advised to verify the accreditation status of any training institution before enrolling or making payments.
TVETA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding training standards in Kenya and warned that it will continue to take action against institutions operating outside the legal framework.
