A senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer has died following a fatal road accident involving multiple vehicles along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
The officer, Nyandarua County Criminal Investigations Officer John Rioba, was among the victims of a nine-vehicle collision that occurred at the Karai area on Monday, June 15.
According to reports, the crash caused extensive damage and left several people injured, prompting a major emergency response to rescue victims from the wreckage.
MCA Injured in Nairobi-Nakuru Highway Multi-Vehicle Crash
Uasin Gishu Member of County Assembly Regina Chumba was among those injured in the accident. She reportedly sustained chest injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“Nyandarua CCIO John Rioba has been killed in a nine-vehicle collision at Karai along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway. Uasin Gishu MCA Regina Chumba sustained chest injuries,” confirmed Radio 47 reports.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, which also caused significant traffic disruption along the busy highway.

According to Pamoja Road Safety, preliminary findings and emergency reports indicate that a truck lost its brakes while descending the steep Kinungi section along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
The truck reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving nine vehicles.
Emergency responders from the Kenya Red Cross and the police were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash. Rescue teams worked to secure the area, free trapped passengers, and coordinate the evacuation of the injured.
The accident caused significant traffic disruption along the busy highway as authorities launched investigations into the incident.
Several Feared Dead After Shuttle Collides With Trailer On a Highway
Several people were feared dead following a road crash involving a passenger Shuttle and a trailer on June 10, 2026. The accident occurred at the Matoleo area in Mabanga when an Eldoret Victory Shuttle matatu collided with a trailer under unclear circumstances.
In a statement, the Motorist Association of Kenya reported that several people were killed after the matatu collided with the trailer while traveling along the highway.
“Several people were killed as an Eldoret Victory Shuttle matatu full of passengers collided with a trailer,” the Motorist Association of Kenya said in its statement.
The shuttle was reportedly carrying passengers at the time of the crash, with the impact causing extensive damage to both vehicles.

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the Eldoret Victory Shuttle crash and determine the exact number of people involved.
Official confirmation on fatalities and injuries had not been released by authorities at the time of reporting.
However, a report from @AK_Endere, a journalist and voice-over artist, indicated that six people had been confirmed dead and several others injured.
