President William Ruto is once again set to leave the country for an official foreign engagement, continuing a series of international trips.

The Head of State is expected to travel to France for the upcoming G7 Summit, where Kenya has been invited as the only African nation in a high-level engagement with some of the world’s largest economies.

Speaking during a church service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kajiado County on June 14, 2026, Ruto announced that he will leave the country on Monday, June 15, to represent the African continent at the G7 meeting in France.

The G7 summit is scheduled to take place in France from 15 to 17 June 2026, bringing together leaders of the world’s advanced economies, along with invited partner countries, for high-level discussions on global stability, economic and geopolitical tensions.

Ruto set for Another High-Level Diplomatic Mission Abroad.

This comes after he came from Finland on his state visit on June 12.

The President’s upcoming trip is centered on the G7 Summit in France, a gathering of major industrialized nations focused on global economic stability, security, and development priorities.

Kenya’s participation is being framed by State House as a strategic opportunity to elevate the country’s voice on issues such as debt restructuring, climate financing, and trade reform.

The planned departure comes at a time when the government is pushing for a strong narrative of economic diplomacy, positioning Kenya as a key bridge between Africa and global financial powers.

Recently, the head of state has visited several countries, including

  • Azerbaijan — May 2026
  • Kazakhstan — May 19–20, 2026 (State Visit)
  • South Africa — June 3–5, 2026 (State Visit)
  • Belgium — June 2026 (Official Visit)
  • Norway — June 2026 (Official Visit)
  • Finland — June 10–11, 2026 (State Visit)
  • Italy — April 2026

  • Emmanuel Macron — France (host)
  • Mark Carney — Canada
  • Keir Starmer — United Kingdom

Why France picked Kenya over South Africa for the 2026 G7 Summit

The Group of Seven (G7) comprises the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan, with the European Union also participating.

On 26 March 2026, South Africa reported that it had been excluded from the guest list for the upcoming G7 summit in France, despite being a regular invitee in previous years.

France opted to invite Kenya over South Africa to represent African perspectives in discussions on trade, climate funding, infrastructure, and regional security.

France said the choice was deliberate, tied to strengthening Franco-African relations ahead of President Emmanuel Macron’s major Africa-France summit in Nairobi.

France, as host, is expected to steer discussions on pressing global challenges, including economic recovery, artificial intelligence governance, energy security, climate financing, and ongoing geopolitical conflicts that affect global supply chains and security framework.
