The Parliamentary Service Commission has mourned the death of Parliament chef Gathogo Mungai Kamau.
Gathogo died on Wednesday, April 29, after he was fatally stabbed at his Ongata Rongai home.
In an obituary published on Tuesday, May 5, the Commission described Gathogo as a dedicated officer who was always creative in his work.
“It is with profound sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that the Parliamentary Service Commission announces the sudden demise of Gathogo Mungai Kamau on Wednesday, 29th April 2026,” read part of the obituary.
“Gathogo was a diligent and dedicated officer, courageous, creative in his work, friendly and generous.”
Parliamentary Commission Mourns Chef Gathogo Mungai
Gathogo was the beloved son of Dr. John Kamau Mungai and Elder Margaret Wairimu Kamau.
He was a brother-in-law of Edward Ndung’u and Elizabeth Nyawira, and a loving uncle to Peace Wanjiku, Joy Wairimu, Gloria Wairimu, Prince Mburu, Ashley Wairimu, Ivy Wanjira, Wairimu Wamathaga, and Kamau Wamathaga.
Friends and family are meeting daily at his father’s home in Kiahuria, Wangige, from 4:00 pm.
The cortege will leave Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home (Mbagathi) on Thursday, 7th May 2026 at 8:00 am, followed by a funeral service and burial at Kiahuria, Wangige, Lower Kabete.

The chef attached to the National Assembly was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend, with whom he had been cohabiting for about three weeks.

How Chef Gathogo Mungai Died
According to a police report, Gathogo arrived home from work at about 9.50 pm on Tuesday in the company of his girlfriend, 31-year-old Catherine Muthoki.
Officers from Ongata Rongai Police Station and DCI visited the scene and found the man lying on the bedroom floor in a pool of blood with a kitchen knife lodged in his left arm near the chest.
He was immediately rushed to Saitoti Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized treatment, where he was pronounced dead on arrival

The two were said to have been drinking earlier at a club, where sources say he had recently met the woman who later stabbed him to death.
Rongai OCPD Benjamin Kiprono confirmed the incident, stating that the two had been friends for some time and had been in a relationship for about 3 weeks.
“Police who arrived at the scene established that Mungai Gathogo—later identified as an officer working at Parliament, though the specific department was not immediately known—had been seriously injured,” he said.
“He was allegedly attacked by his girlfriend, identified as Catherine Muthoki, following what police believe were domestic issues.”
