TikTok users in America are turning to a Chinese mobile application RedNote in the wake of a looming ban of the popular video sharing app.
The Supreme Court is set to make its ruling on January 19, 2025, on whether Tiktok should sell its US operation of face ban in America.
The app which is now being referred to as ‘China’s TikTok’ includes images, short-form videos, and community-building tools. It is not exactly similar to TikTok and is owned by a Shanghai-based company called Xingyin Information Technology.
Americans will resort to RedNote if TikTok is banned
RedNote allows users to share videos, post pictures, and make text posts, and also has a provision for shopping features.
American TikTokers who have a huge following on the app have asked their followers to download the app and follow them.
This is meant to send a message to the government as well as Meta which is set to reap hugely from the ban.

Most users have stated that if the app is banned, they will resort to RedNote.
TikTok which is owned by the Chinese Company ByteDance faces a ban over data privacy concerns, national security risks, and influence on children and privacy.
American lawmakers have stated that China could use TikTok to fuel misinformation.
Why TikTok is facing ban
TikTok made its case on January 10, 2025, before the Supreme Court. One of its prayers was that the enforcement of the law scheduled for January 19 be postponed.
In April 2024 US President Joe Biden signed legislation into law requiring TikTok’s parent company ByteDance to sell the giant social media platform or face a ban.

There had been reports of the Chinese government considering selling the app to Space X Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk so that it can continue operating in the United States.
TikTok has however refuted the claims terming them pure fiction.
American YouTuber and Philanthropist Mr. Beast has also expressed interest in buying the application to prevent its ban in America. He made the announcement through his X platform.
“Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok, so it doesn’t get banned,” stated Mr. Beast.
