Fally Ipupa’s Rise to African Music Stardom
Fally Ipupa has developed a strong following across East Africa, with his music reaching audiences well beyond his native Democratic Republic of Congo. His sound combines Congolese rumba and soukous with elements of R&B, pop and Afrobeats.
Some of his popular tracks include Eloko Oyo, Original, Likolo, Canne à Sucre, Amore, A Flyé, Bad Boy, Sweet Life, Mayanga, Bloqué and Science Fiction, among others.
Before beginning his solo career in 2006 with Droit Chemin, Fally was a member of Koffi Olomide’s Quartier Latin International, where he served as one of the group’s lead vocalists. He later built a successful solo career, performing across Africa, Europe and North America while earning several awards and international recognition.
In 2026, Fally reached another career milestone when his album XX, released to mark 20 years in music, became the first album by an African artiste to top France’s official albums chart.
