Climate change is a significant global challenge that threatens sustainable progress, especially in countries like Kenya that are climate-sensitive and have low adaptive capacity.
To tackle this issue, NIBC Creation Media, in collaboration with Cullinan Edge, Hivos Organization, Journalists for Human Rights, and Action Aid International Kenya, are proud to introduce the inaugural Mr. & Miss Climate Kenya event. This event aims to enhance the national conversation on climate change and empower young people aged 18-35 to lead in addressing the issue.
The Mr. & Miss, Climate Kenya event is an excellent example of how beauty pageants can be used as a platform for environmental conservation. The competition is open to all Kenyans passionate about innovative climate solutions in their localities.
Participants will showcase their efforts towards addressing climate change, and the Mr. and Miss, Climate Kenya winners will be rewarded with prizes. The event seeks to promote a mindset shift among young people towards climate change and entrust them with the responsibility of climate change advocacy in their communities.
The involvement of young people in environmental conservation efforts is critical, as they will be the ones to inherit the earth. The Mr. & Miss Climate Kenya event allows young people to showcase their ideas and efforts towards addressing climate change and to create a Youth-Led Climate Network to resource young people towards effective solutions.

The event also provides an opportunity to review the outcomes of the COP27 Summit held in Egypt in November 2022. It will highlight the impact of the global SDG Agenda 13 on other agendas, including Ending Poverty, Zero Hunger, Gender Equality, Availability and Sustainable Management of Water and Sanitation for All, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Reducing Inequality.
The Mr. & Miss Climate Kenya event is the first of its kind in the country. It aims to open opportunities for young people to advocate for climate change and drive innovative solutions towards a sustainable future.
