The Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua and his wife Dorcas Gachagua recently met with the popular Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol during the Forbes Under 30 Africa Summit in Botswana. The meeting was held to discuss various issues concerning young people in the country.
One of the topics discussed was how to empower young people in Kenya through talent development. The deputy president expressed interest in working with the band to mentor and guide vulnerable young people to lead meaningful lives. He also stressed the importance of discouraging drug and substance abuse among youths.
The meeting was held on Monday evening, and according to a tweet by Gachagua, the conversation was enriching. The deputy president said that they explored possibilities of working together to guide and help rescue young people lost in illicit brews and substance abuse so that they can lead meaningful lives.
Sauti Sol, who performed at the conference’s welcome party on Sunday, also tweeted about the meeting but did not provide any details.

The Forbes Under 30 Africa Summit brings together young entrepreneurs and game-changers from over 40 countries to celebrate and learn from each other, inspiring the newest and next generation of leaders. Gachagua is in Botswana representing President William Ruto at the five-day summit.
Apart from the meeting with Sauti Sol, Gachagua also met with more than 250 Kenyans living in Botswana, urging them to invest back home.
The meeting with Sauti Sol is part of the government’s efforts to engage with young people in Kenya and empower them through talent development. The government has been actively seeking ways to curb drug and substance abuse among youths, a growing concern in the country.
