Willy Paul Msafi has taken to his Facebook account to give feedback to Eric Omondi following his attack on the gospel industry and gospel musicians. His sentiments did not sit well with Paul, who just lashed back.
The songwriter debuted in the music industry with his first hit song, “Rabuka.” He got his breakthrough on “Sitolia,” a song he co-authored with Gloria Muliro. The song reflects his struggle in life and how far God has brought him. It was a hit and earned him the Groove Award for the male artist of the year 2013. His mentor Gloria Muliro took the female artist of the year award. His first-ever album, “You never know,” launched on December 5th, 2013, at the KICC, where several celebrated gospel artists graced the event, like Gloria Muliro, DK Kwenye Beat, Size 8, Mr. Seed, and many more. He went on to release more songs and became a household name appealing to the youthful audience. He won many Awards, including Groove Awards 2015, Best Gospel Act, Africa 2017, and USA tour for his “You Never Know Album.”

Through the years, Willy Paul ditched the gospel industry, citing jealousy among his colleagues, a lot of haters, and lack of airplay, among others. ” I don’t want to mention names, but the people in the gospel industry did so much to me. There’s a feeling where you haven’t done anything to anyone, but they want to see you fail,” he said during an interview. He has so far continued to top the charts with his secular music and seems unstoppable. From local collaborations with Meja and Sauti Sol’s Bien to Khaligraph Jones to international names like Cecil and Alaine, Willy Paul has increased his subscribers from hundreds of thousands to 1.05M, where he currently stands.
“Eric, I am not a gospel musician, so please address the right people. Get my name out of your mouth. you’re like an elder brother to me but pahali imefika unavuka mpakaa. We’re all chasing that big bag, bro. Focus on making urself big just like me,” read the post.
