The Kenyan music industry is mourning the sudden death of veteran musician Eric Onguru, popularly known as Kunguru. Kunguru passed away on Sunday at 2:00 pm while admitted to a Nairobi hospital where he had been receiving treatment for the past few weeks.
According to his former manager, who spoke exclusively to Kiss FM’s Dennis Milimo, Kunguru had been in and out of the hospital since 2017. His prolonged illness was attributed to an accident he suffered in 2009/10 that affected his spinal cord.

Kunguru, a married man, was not only a talented musician but also worked in the banking industry. He was widely known for his club-banging hits such as “I Will Never Let you Go” and “Baby Don’t Go” featuring Mr. Lenny.
His lyrics and style of music earned him the title of “ladies’ man” in his prime. Although he started rapping early, Kunguru debuted in mainstream showbiz in 2006 with the release of “African Woman” featuring Mr. Lenny.
Kunguru was among the few talents that were retained by Ogopa Deejays when they terminated the contracts of most of their signees. Following news of his passing, media personality Gidi was among the first to pay tribute to the fallen star.
The industry has lost a notable talent, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. He was forty-four at the time of his passing.
