Former citizen Tv journalist Janet Mbugua, famous thespian Kate Actress, Instagram influencer Carol Soni and NTV’s Fridah Mwaka have been nominated to the Ladies in Media Awards (LIMA) 2023.
The award seeks to acknowledge, honour, and celebrate Africa’s most outstanding females in the media industry who continue to positively impact the media and the society at large.
The prestigious award features eighteen categories and more than fifty nominees from across the continent. This year’s gala will be held in Ghana and will attract nominees from various parts of Africa including Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe.

Janet’s nomination is in the Outstanding Female Humanitarian of the Year category, and she has been recognized for her empowerment of young females with the Inua Dada campaign. She launched The Inua Dada Centre at Korogocho slum in Nairobi. The Centre is a space that provides access to information and awareness on reproductive health and rights.
Katherine Kamau aka Kate Actress is famous for her role, Celina which she played on the Citizen Tv drama series, Mother-in-Law, Sue in Sue na Johny and many more. She went on to diversify and featured in other productions including advertisements and YouTube Content Creation. Her nomination category is the Africa Female Actor of the Year
Fridah Mwaka is a Swahili News anchor famous for her command of Swahili Language. Her nomination is in the Outstanding News Anchor of the Year. Formerly in KTN, she currently anchors the 7PM bulletin alongside her “tv husband” Lofty Matambo. Her eloquence and command have made her a household name in the industry.
Carol Soni is an Instagram model, influencer, and content creator. Her nomination is in the Carol Soni in the Female Influencer of the Year category. She has built a following across social media and created a name for herself.
Liz Ntonjira, a famous news anchor is a jack of most trades. She has been nominated in The Africa Female Author of the Year. The Mandela Washington Fellow is also an author, and Global Communications Director at AMREF and founder of The Lizz Ntonjira Network, a platform that provides innovative, engaging, interactive and tailored training and coaching for the youth.
Kenyans took to social media to celebrate the nominees and wish them good luck as they represent our country. They also encouraged each other to vote in masses as the nominees will be relying on the support of the public to win in their respective categories.
