KNEC Activates KCSE Results Checker Ahead of Release

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has activated the online Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results checker ahead of the official release of the 2025 examination results, to be announced on January 8. 

A review of the KNEC examination registration portal shows that the results-checking interface is now live, allowing candidates to access their KCSE results by entering their admission number and full registered name once the results are officially released. The portal forms part of KNEC’s digital examination services for secondary school candidates.

The move signals final preparations by the examination body as anticipation builds for the release of the 2025 KCSE results.

The examinations were conducted successfully between October 21 and November 21, 2025. Oral and practical papers began on October 21, while written theory examinations ran from November 4 to November 21.

According to official data, a total of 996,078 candidates were registered for the examinations.

This was part of a wider national assessment period that involved more than 3.4 million learners across the KCSE, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

The Ministry of Education reported 418 cases of examination malpractice during the 2025 KCSE cycle, a decline from 614 cases recorded in 2024. Authorities said investigations into the reported cases are ongoing, with offenders facing strict legal action, including possible nullification of results and prosecution.

CS Ogamba addresses the release of KCSE 2025 results

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba had earlier confirmed that the 2025 KCSE results will be released in January 2026.

He also dismissed claims circulating on social media that the results had already been released, and that Kapsabet High School had emerged as the top-performing school nationally.

“Treat such fake and misleading news with the contempt it deserves,” the CS said this week, urging the public to ignore unverified reports.

The marking of the 2025 KCSE examinations was completed on December 13, 2025. The process involved 32,558 examiners deployed across 40 marking centres nationwide.

Authorities implemented enhanced integrity measures, including innovative digital locking systems for examination containers and a ban on mobile phones in exam centres, to safeguard the credibility of the process.

The 2025 KCSE examination is among the final cycles under the 8-4-4 education system. It is the third-last KCSE as Kenya transitions fully to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, under which Grade 9 learners will move to senior school starting January 2026.

Once released, the 2025 KCSE results will guide placement into higher learning and tertiary institutions under the government’s 100 per cent transition policy.
