The Kenya Cultural Centre Association of Artists (K.C.C.A.A) has published the names of registered groups to perform set books in secondary schools.
In an announcement on January 11, K.C.C.A.A Secretary General Davalne Wandera listed 41 registered groups and productions.
“Below is list of accredited groups/ productions who have compiled with rules and regulations for live stage performance of set books,” said Wandera.
Among the listed production groups include The Royal Theatre by Devalne Wandera and CentreStage Productions by Moses Mwigiri.
Others include The State Theatre Players by Michael Mboya, Enlightened Thespians Theatre (Elites) by Danny Njenga and Grand Artways Production by Jackson Silingi.
Further, the Association listed Watamaduni Productions, Standup Arts Africa Production, Leaders Theatre and Zindua Arts Rejuvenation.
These groups are owned by David Kitaka, Collins Maloba, Kelvin Muthama and John Bosco respectively.
“Our core mandate is to represent artistes, regulate the theatre in education practitioners (set books productions and/or artistes) industry, capacity building, economic empowerment/investment/welfare of artistes and ensure our members comply to professional, artistic and academic rules and regulations from the government, MoE,TSC, KESSHA and KCCAA and adhere to high standards of quality, discipline and professionalism,” read the announcement.
K.C.C.A.A also named Mabingwa Theatre by Tom Njoroge, Sky Arts Production by Charles Mwangi and The Planets Theatre by David Kinyua.
The Authority listed Godfrey Odhiambo’s Jawabu Arts Quality Production, Goodspell Theatres Productions by Eudicus Ngatambu and Morrison Njenga’s Starlight Production.

Other Registered Productions
Other registered groups are the Creative Generation Arts Production by Charles Ambaisi, Infomatrix Production by Erick Ondiba and Liberty Theatre Arts by Calvin Magawe.
Optimus Arts Theatre, Prime Arts for Creative Entertainment, Forever Arts Group and Golden Pot Production have also been accredited.
Also in the list is Starz Theatre, Meshmax Production, The Elites Professional Theatres and Nation Theatre.

Miale Theatre, United Jumbos, Faraja Arts Production and Talents Theatre Production were among the listed production groups.
Additionally, K.C.C.A.A said The Brand Shakinah Arts, Artmasters International Production, Perfectors Film and Theatre, Epic Dreams Production and Celebryte Theatre have also complied with the rules and regulations.
Fanaka Arts Theatre, The Champions Production, The Emac Ensemble, Blink Theatre, Neptrix Theatre and Galaxy Theatre were among the listed accredited groups.
Current School Set Books
The current Kiswahili (Fasihi) and English (Literature) set books released by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) will be used until 2028.
The English Literature set book is Fathers of Nations by Paul B. Vitta and published by the Oxford University Press East Africa.
Optional English set books are Parliament of Owls written by Adipo Sidang’ and A Silence Song and other Stories.
In Kiswahili, John Habwe’s ‘Cheche za Moto’ is the compulsory set text while Mapambazuko ya Machweo is the current anthology of short stories.
Samuel Wachira’s A Spider’s Web is studied in Teacher Training Colleges, TTCs while, Mzigo wa Kichaa is studied at Diploma levels.
