Joyce Agalo, a renowned Researcher in Education, Leadership, and Communication, is the current Vice Chancellor of Machakos University.
She holds a Bachelor’s in Education from Kenyatta University, a Master’s in Media Technology from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Communication and Technology from Moi University.
Joyce has also undertaken part of her research at the FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany.
She is also a graduate of the Management of Higher Education Institutes programme from Galilee International Management Institute in Israel and the International Women’s University Hamburg, Germany.

With over 25 years of experience in academia, research, and instructional design, Joyce Agalo has held several key positions in higher education.

Between February 2017 and February 2023, Joyce Agalo served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Students Affairs, at Machakos University.
In 2023, she was appointed the second substantive Vice-Chancellor, succeeding Professor Lucy Irungu, who retired.
Joyce is married to Professor Jerry Agalo, an Associate Professor of Linguistics and Media Studies.
The couple has children, including a son named Alex, who has publicly recognized both parents as his role models.
Achievements
Under her leadership, Machakos University has collaborated with the Safaricom-MPESA Foundation to implement blended learning models and practical exposure programs.

She has authored numerous publications on educational technology, distance learning, and related fields, including The Blended Teaching and Learning Journey: Implementation in Higher Education Institutions in Kenya.
Joyce was awarded the Officer of the Order of the Volta for Academic Distinction, a national honor from Ghana, and the Ghana Women of Excellence Award for the Education Category.
