The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the recruitment of 46,000 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms of service.
In a notice on Tuesday October 1, TSC invited applications from qualified teachers to fill 6,000 posts for Primary Schools, 39,550 posts for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), and 450 posts for Secondary Schools.
To qualify for recruitment, a candidate must be a Kenyan citizen and a registered teacher with TSC.
Interested candidates must also hold a minimum of a P1 certificate for Primary Schools and a minimum of a diploma in education for JSS and Secondary Schools.
“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Teachers Service Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke, not later than 7th October 2024, at midnight,” TSC stated.
Details on available vacancies per county, sub-county, or school can be found on the Teachers Service Commission’s website: www.tsc.go.ke.
TSC’s recruitment guidelines for the 2024/2025 financial year will apply, and manual applications will not be considered.
The Commission explained that serving interns are expected to apply in their current counties, sub-counties, or workstations.
Serving interns will only be required to present their identity cards during the verification process.
TSC noted that shortlisted candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates.
However, the Commission warned that successful candidates must not submit more than one Application for Employment Form.
“Filling two or more Application for Employment Forms will lead to disqualification,” the Commission stated.

Warning Against Fraudsters
The TSC reiterated that it is an equal-opportunity employer as per constitutional provisions and encouraged persons with disabilities (PWDs) to apply.
The recruitment exercise is free of charge, and TSC has warned applicants against fraudsters who might ask for money, pretending to assist in recruitment.
Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters.

CS Ogamba’s Pledge
In August, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Migos Ogamba pledged to honor teachers’ demands, including hiring more teachers and confirming JSS teachers to permanent and pensionable status.
Migos said the government plans to hire JSS teachers on permanent terms by January 2025.
“The 46,000 JSS teachers are on course to be confirmed as permanent and pensionable by the government, and we hope to complete this by January 2025, so they should not have any anxiety,” Migos said.
TSC Extends Internship Period
This coincided with an announcement from TSC asking intern teachers to renew their internship contracts and extend them by four months.
TSC invited the 20,000 intern teachers who were engaged by the Commission to extend their contracts, which were due to expire in September 2024.
This number consists of 18,000 tutors attached to JSS and 2,000 attached to Primary Schools, who were recruited in September 2023.
