Go to the official HELB portal by entering the following URL in your browser: https://www.helb.co.ke/loanees-portal

For new users, click on the “Register” button and provide your National ID number, email address, and create a password.

Check your email for an activation link and click it to verify your account.

Returning users should log in with their credentials (email and password) and click “Sign In.”

Once logged in, navigate to the “Self-Serve” section and click on “Loan Statement.”

Via the HELB Mobile App

The HELB Mobile App offers a convenient and secure way for loanees to manage their Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) accounts directly from their smartphones.

Step-by-Step Guide

Begin by installing the official HELB Mobile App from your device’s app store:

• Android users: Open the Google Play Store and search for “HELB Mobile App”.
• iOS users: Visit the Apple App Store and search for the same.

Tap Install and wait for the app to download and install on your device.

Once the app is installed:

• New users should tap on “Register” and provide their National ID number, email address, and other required details. You’ll be prompted to create a secure password.
• An activation link will be sent to your email. Click on it to verify your account.
• Returning users can simply tap “Log In” and enter their credentials to access the app.

After logging in successfully, locate the “Loan Statement” option on the app’s dashboard.

Tap to open and view your current loan balance, repayment history, and any outstanding amounts.

If need be, the app allows you to download your statement as a PDF.

Once you’ve reviewed your loan details, always remember to log out, especially if you’re using a shared or public device.

Checking via M-Pesa or USSD

Checking via M-Pesa

1. Open the M-Pesa menu on your mobile phone.
2. Select “Lipa na M-Pesa”.
3. Choose “Paybill”.
4. Enter the HELB Business Number: 200800.
5. For the Account Number, input your National ID number or HELB reference number.
6. Enter the Amount as 0 (zero).
7. Input your M-Pesa PIN and confirm the transaction.

Checking via USSD

1. Dial *642# from your mobile phone.
2. Register by entering your National ID and choosing a secure PIN.
3. After registration, dial *642# again and log in using your PIN.
4. Select the “Loan Services” or “Loan Balance” option.
5. Follow the prompts to view your loan balance.
