Safaricom customers can claim a free 1GB data bundle on their birthday under the Safaricom Anniversary service.

According to the terms of the service, customers can dial 54419# on their birthday to check their eligibility and redeem the data bundle.

The birthday offer is available to eligible subscribers whose details meet the requirements for the service.

Recent customer-care guidance indicates that a Safaricom line must have been active on the network for more than two years for a customer to qualify for the birthday reward.

According to the operators, the offer is linked to the date of birth registered on the subscriber’s account.

“On your birthday, you will be able to make calls all day across all networks for KSh 1/= per minute until midnight of the same day. You will also be able to redeem free 1GB of data on the day of your birthday,” Safaricom states.

Customers whose date-of-birth details are incorrect or missing may therefore have difficulty accessing the birthday benefit.

How to Claim the Birthday Bundle

Customers seeking to redeem the offer must dial *544*19# from their Safaricom line on their birthday.

The customer should then select the birthday bundle option from the menu and follow the prompts issued by the service provider.

After the user successfully submits the required information in response to the prompts, the service sends a confirmation message stating that the 1GB bundle, valid until midnight, has been credited.

Customers who do not receive a birthday notification can still dial *544*19# to check whether the offer is available on their lines.

“As a subscriber, you will receive a notification when you are eligible for the anniversary service,” the service provider notes.

What Safaricom’s Anniversary Bundles Terms State and Changes

Safaricom has published anniversary terms that provide for a one-off 1GB data gift that eligible subscribers can redeem on their birthdays.

The terms also provide for special calling benefits, including calls across local networks at KSh1 per minute on a subscriber’s birthday.

However, the service providers have clarified that the anniversary bundle, unlike the birthday bundles, is for users celebrating more than 3 years of using the Safaricom network.

For those users, the service provider allows the customer to redeem a one-off gift of 1GB or 60 minutes.

Additionally, the service provider emphasizes that when registering minors as subscribers, the person holding the parental authority may open and maintain a mobile number in their name on behalf of the minor.

The anniversary service also comes with a roaming restriction according to the service providers. Customers cannot access or redeem the birthday benefit while using Safaricom services outside the network’s home coverage.

Further anniversary service terms published in March 2024 directed eligible subscribers to dial 54418# to redeem the birthday gift with the 1GB bundle, valid for three hours from redemption.

In contrast, the recent customer-care guidance for 2026 directs eligible customers to dial 54419#.

Additionally, the latest guidance also indicates that the 1GB birthday bundle is valid until midnight on the customer’s birthday.
