President William Ruto has unveiled his new cabinet after dismissing all the Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) as demanded by the Kenyan youth.
During his state of the nation address at State House Nairobi on Friday, July 19, Ruto retained some of the CSs who were in the previous cabinet.
“Consequently, I have started the process of forming a new, broad-based cabinet to assist me in driving the urgently needed and irreversible transformation of our country. I hereby nominate the following first batch of 11 individuals for consideration and approval by the National Assembly for appointment as Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General,” Ruto said.
Ruto has retained Prof Kithure Kindiki as the CS for Interior and National Administration.
Aden Duale has been retained as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, while Alice Wahome has also been retained as the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development.
Additionally, President Ruto has nominated Soipan Tuya as the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
Former Energy CS Davis Chirchir has been moved to the Ministry of Roads and Transport while former Trade CS Rebecca Miano has been nominated as the Attorney General.
Ruto Appoints New Faces
President Ruto has nominated Dr. Debra Mulongo Barasa to take over from Susan Nakhumicha as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Health.
Julius Ogamba has been nominated to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Education, while Dr. Andrew Karanja has been picked as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.
President Ruto has nominated Eric Muriithi to succeed Zachariah Njeru as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, while Dr. Margaret Ndungu has been picked to serve as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
“Further consultations are ongoing after which I will announce more names in due course,” Ruto said.
Ruto said the government is enhancing, broadening and deepening the national economic turnaround Plan set out in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
This he explained will incorporate a wider range of ideas, programmes and interventions that will facilitate job creation, robust debt management, enhanced transparency and accountability in the use of public resources and enhanced domestic resource mobilisation and optimise public expenditure.

Govt Measures to Address Citizen Needs
Ruto stated that the government must take measures to affirm our commitment to actualizing the people’s aspirations,
He assured citizens that the State exists to serve them efficiently and with integrity, and to signal to all that our national values and principles of governance are the foundation of our national dispensation.
Ruto said among the issues that must prioritized include accelerated programmes to significantly increase food production in addition to other interventions so as to reduce the cost of living.

“The necessity for a public conversation on innovative, prudent, transparent, and accountable use of public resources, along with people-friendly mechanisms for domestic resource mobilization and reducing public expenditure,” Ruto said.
He also mentioned the need to expand existing job-creation programmes and to create new intervention to address unemployment, in order to absorb thousands of unemployed youths into gainful work.
“I will be issuing next week a clear roadmap on the assignment that the new cabinet is going to have with clear timelines and deliverables for us to harness the tremendous potential in our nation and drive our country to greatness,” Ruto said.
