The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) will lose the monopoly of selling drugs and medical kits to county and national health facilities should DP William Ruto win the August 9 elections.
Ruto made the promise when he met representatives from the medical sector in Nairobi
He promised to redefine the structure of the supply of drugs in the country
According to him that will give counties a free hand to choose suppliers for drugs and medical kits.
KEMSA monopoly has in the past been blamed for the delay of medical supplies to counties
All medical supplies going to county and national hospitals are procured through KEMSA.
The agency sources medicines and other equipment from manufacturers and other suppliers before selling them to counties.
