The Social Health Authority (SHA) has contracted several health care facilities in Nairobi County, categorized by management type and their Kenya Essential Package for Health (KEPH) level.
Under the SHA approval facilities, including high-level referral hospitals, sub-county hospitals, and local clinics.
Ouma Oluga, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Medical Services, warned that SHA-approved hospitals are demanding cash to provide insurance services, terming it unethical.
“It’s illegal for hospitals to block patients from using SHA; some hospitals demand cash instead, which is unethical, and we urge the public always to verify and report such cases,” Oluga stated.
In the public and county government facilities, prominent hospitals, including Mbagathi County Referral Hospital and Pumwani Maternity and Referral Hospital, are approved as level 5 hospitals in the health insurance system.
In the level 4 SHA has approved health facilities, including Bahati Hospital, Kianda 42 Hospital, Kayole II Sub-County Hospital, Langata Sub-County Hospital, Makadara Hospital, Mathare North Hospital, Tassia Kwa Ndege Hospital, and Westlands Hospital.
Nairobi SHA-approved Level 3 health centers, and units offering the insurance health benefits include AMREF Kibera Community Health Center, Eastleigh Health Center, GSU Embakasi Health Center, GSU Headquarters Health Center, Huruma Lions Health Center, Jericho Health Center, Kangemi Health Center, Karen Health Center, and Kariobangi Health Center, among others.
Further, under the public health facilities in the level 2 include the Bahati MDR, Biafra Lions, Casino (Special Treatment Centre), Dog Unit, Gatina, Hono Cresent, Jerusalem, Kaloleni, Karanja Road Beyond Zero, Kariobangi South, Kariokor, Kayole Soweto, Kiamaiko Dispensary, Lindi Community, Lower Kabete, Maringo, Mathare Police Depot, Mbotela, Ministry of Works, Mji wa Huruma, Muthurwa, Ngaira Rhodes, Ngong Road, Ofafa I, Pangani, Pumwani Majengo, Rhodes Chest & TB, Ruaraka, Shauri Moyo, Silanga, State House, Upendo, and Zimmerman Pickens.

SHA has also approved dispensaries and clinics that are FBO in the level 2 with various Eastern Deanery Aids Relief programs in Donholm, Huruma, Ruai, Shauri Moto, Dandora, and Mathare.
In addition to the Aid relief centers, Biafra Medical clinic, Coptic Health Center, Deliverance Church Kasarani Medical Clinic, Makadara Mercy Sisters Dispensary, MMM Mukuru Health Center, Nyina wa Mumbi Health Services, PCEA Pipeline Care Clinic, St. Bridget Dispensary, St Francis Catholic Dispensary (Kawangware Gatina), St. Monica Dispensary Mwengenye, St. Odilias Dispensary, and St. Teresa Parish Dispensary are approved SHA level 2 FBO healthcare.

Nairobi SHA Approved Community and Private Facilities
Marie Stopes Kenya Eastleigh Nursing Home is an approved level 4 Nairobi SHA-approved facility under the insurance system.
Medical Link Integrated Health Program, Communal Oriented Services, and Brightside Drug Abuse Rehabilitation and Treatment Center are approved level 3 healthcare facilities in Nairobi.
At level 2 healthcare facilities, SHA has approved Greenwood Modern Medical Center, Mwiki CFW Clinic, and Sunton CFW Clinic to offer medical attention under the insurance system.
Further, among the Nairobi SHA-approved institutional-level 3A facilities is the Co-operative University Health Unit.
