The Social Health Authority (SHA) has extended the deadline for healthcare providers to comply with the Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements by one month.
In a notice on September 1, SHA said the compliance deadline has been moved to September 30 to give healthcare providers more time to complete the required system configuration and compliance processes.
“Healthcare providers are hereby notified that the deadline for compliance with the Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements has been extended by one (1) month, to 30 September 2026,” stated SHA.
SHA said the extension was intended to allow healthcare providers more time to meet the HMIS requirements before the revised deadline.
“This extension will allow healthcare providers additional time to complete the necessary system configuration and compliance processes,” SHA stated.
The authority encouraged all healthcare providers to use the additional period to ensure they achieve full compliance by September 30.
Healthcare providers experiencing technical or system-related challenges during the compliance process have been advised to seek assistance from the Digital Health Agency (DHA) Technical Support team.
SHA said support is available to help providers resolve issues affecting their compliance with the HMIS requirements.

Mandatory Requirement for SHA Contracting
The extension follows SHA’s requirement that all contracted and prospective healthcare providers seeking to participate in SHA-funded schemes adopt accredited Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) and integrate them with the national digital health platform.
Under the directive, health facilities were required to have a functional HMIS that meets technical integration requirements prescribed by the authority and the Digital Health Agency (DHA).
Providers were instructed to remain electronically connected to SHA’s centralized digital platform to facilitate service verification, claims processing, and information exchange.
SHA said it will progressively phase out the current Provider Portal and eventually deactivate it as healthcare facilities transition to accredited HMIS platforms.
According to SHA, the transition to HMIS is expected to improve the completeness and accuracy of claims data, support real-time verification of services provided to beneficiaries, and reduce claims processing timelines.
The authority also said the system will strengthen the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse through data analytics, while improving monitoring of provider performance and quality assurance.
In addition, HMIS integration is expected to enable seamless information sharing between healthcare providers, SHA, the Digital Health Agency, and other health sector systems.

Transition to Taifa Care HMIS
According to SHA, the transition to accredited HMIS platforms is already underway in parts of the public healthcare system.
In a separate notice, the authority informed Level 4 public healthcare facilities that all claims processing services would transition from the SHA Provider Portal to the Taifa Care Health Management Information System (HMIS) following the successful completion of system testing and approval by SHA and the Digital Health Agency (DHA).
“Following the successful completion of system testing and approval by the Social Health Authority and the Digital Health Agency (DHA), all claims processing services will transition from the SHA Provider Portal to the Taifa Care Health Management Information System (HMIS),” SHA said.
SHA said the transition took effect at midnight on June 29 and directed healthcare facilities to submit all new claims through Taifa Care HMIS.
The authority added that claims submitted through the SHA Provider Portal before the migration would remain securely in the system and continue to be processed without interruption.
The authority said the move aims to strengthen Kenya’s digital health ecosystem and deliver healthcare services more efficiently, securely, and seamlessly.
