Britam Holdings Plc has appointed Celestine Munda as the Interim Chairperson of its Board, from March 30, following a resolution by the company’s directors.
In a notice dated March 30, Britam said the decision follows the death of its Board Chairperson, Kuria Muchiru, who passed away on March 19, 2026. The company noted that Munda’s appointment is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
“At a duly convened Board meeting of the Directors held on Monday, 30 March 2026, the Board resolved to appoint Mrs. Celestine Munda as the Interim Chairperson of the Board with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
Britam Board Taps Audit and Risk Chief for Interim Leadership Role
Britam said Munda will serve in the role on a temporary basis as the Board works towards appointing a substantive chairperson.
Munda is currently an independent Non‑Executive Director at Britam and also serves as Chairperson of the Group’s Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, placing her at the centre of the company’s governance and oversight efforts.

In its statement, the Board expressed confidence in her leadership during the transition period.
“The Board is confident that, during this transition, she will provide steady leadership and clear strategic direction to the Company and its Management,” Britam said.
Who Is Britam’s New Interim Chairperson, Celestine Munda
According to the company, Celestine Munda is a seasoned business leader with over 3 decades of professional experience in Kenya and international markets. She previously served as a Senior Partner at Ernst & Young (EY) and has also worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Royal Dutch Shell.
“Celestine is a former Senior Partner at Ernst & Young (EY), with over 30 years of international and local professional and leadership experience spanning two of the Big Four professional services firms, Ernst & Young and PwC, as well as Royal Dutch Shell,” Britam said.
Munda’s career covers a wide range of assurance and advisory roles, supporting organisations in governance, risk and compliance, financial oversight, strategic planning, institutional transformation, human capital advisory, and board support.

Britam says Munda has held senior leadership roles, including Country Managing Partner at EY Kenya, Consulting Services Leader for East and Central Africa, Advisory Leader for consumer and industrial sectors across Africa, and Africa Risk Advisory Services Leader.
Celestine Munda holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA‑K). Munda is also a member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa and the Institute of Internal Auditors in both Kenya and South Africa.
In addition, she has completed executive leadership programmes at global business schools, including Harvard Business School and the Gordon Institute of Business Science at the University of Pretoria. She is currently pursuing an Executive MBA at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business.
