Britam Holdings PLC Board Chairman Kuria Muchiru is dead. In an announcement on Thursday, March 19, the company said that Muchiru passed away on March 19, 2026, after a short illness.
Britam extended condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and many who had the opportunity to work with him.
“The Britam Board of Directors and Management of Britam Holdings PLC is saddened to announce the passing away of our Group Board Chairman, Mr. Kuria Muchiru, who passed away today, 19th March 2026, after a short illness,” the announcement read.
“On behalf of the entire Britam family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him. May God rest his soul in eternal peace.”
Notable Figures Mourn the Death of Britam Group Board Chairman
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano mourned the late Kuria Muchiru, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy will be cherished for years to come.
As tributes poured in, former Kenyan ambassador to Germany Tom Amolo took a moment to remember his childhood friend.
Amolo reminisced about hosting the late Muchiru and his family in Berlin in August 2022 during the wedding of his son to Elisabeth, describing him as a true “Jamaa wa mtaa.”
He expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the family.
“We are in tears. Pole Muthoni, Muchiru, Mukami, and family,” Amolo said.

Profile of Kuria Muchiru
Kuria Muchiru was a seasoned business leader with decades of experience in board leadership.
At the time of his death, he served as Chairman of Britam Holdings PLC, a role he assumed in 2022, where he provided strategic oversight and governance leadership.
He also chaired Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL), serving as a Non-Executive Chairman since 2019, and was also the Executive Chairman of Kuria Capital.
Muchiru previously had a long and distinguished career at PwC, where he worked for 35 years until 2018, rising to the position of Advisory Partner.

Education and Professional Certifications
Kuria Muchiru held a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi, where he studied between 1979 and 1982.
He was also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), having obtained the qualification from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya in 1990.
In addition, Muchiru was a Certified Human Resource Practitioner, a certification he earned in 2017 from the Institute of Human Resource Management Kenya.
