Former Justice Minister Martha Karua has mourned her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua, describing him as one of her strongest supporters throughout her life and career.
Karua announced his death in a statement on Sunday, September 27, 2026, revealing that she had spent time with him in Kirinyaga earlier in the day together with her siblings.
Martha Karua’s Final Moments With Father
According to Karua, she traveled to Kirinyaga to visit her father, where she and her siblings spent time with him and sang his favorite gospel hymn.
She said she did not know that the visit would be their last moments together, noting she received news of his death while traveling back to Nairobi.
“Earlier today, I went to Kirinyaga to visit my father. My siblings and I spent time with him and sang his favourite gospel hymn, never knowing it would be our last song together. On my way back to Nairobi, I received the news that my beloved father had breathed his last,” Karua said.

Jackson Karua’s Support for Martha
In her tribute, Karua remembered her father as a constant source of support from her childhood through her career in law and public life.
She explained that he believed in her long before she had achievements to celebrate and remained proud of her accomplishments.
“My father believed in me long before I had achieved anything worth celebrating. From my school days, through my career in law, and through the many chapters of my public life, he remained one of my strongest supporters,” she stated.
Karua also described him as a man who was always encouraging and remained firmly in her corner.
How Martha Karua Described Her Father
Remembering her father, Karua described Jackson Karua as a principled man who valued character, education, and doing what was right.
She also remembered him as a teacher and a loving father who was approachable, generous, and willing to share his wisdom.
In addition, she added that his values and the lessons he passed on to his family would remain with them.

Karua Pays Tribute to Her Father
Karua emphasized that her father’s death was a major loss to his children, grandchildren, wider family and the many people whose lives he had touched.
Martha Karua also pointed out that she would miss his voice, counsel, encouragement, and the reassurance of knowing that he was always there for her.
“I will miss his voice, his counsel, his encouragement, and the quiet reassurance of knowing that he was there. Huruka thayu, baba. You will be deeply missed, dearly loved, and forever remembered,” Karua noted.
Karua concluded her tribute by thanking her father for believing in her, standing beside her, and loving her through every chapter of her life.
