The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened applications for short-term employment opportunities across the country.

In a notice, the commission stated that it is hiring voter registration clerks to serve in 57 Huduma Centres nationwide.

IEBC is also recruiting poll officials in preparation for the by-elections slated for November 27, 2025.

The upcoming by-elections will aim to fill multiple seats, including the Senate seat in Baringo County and six National Assembly constituencies: Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja.

In addition, elections will be held for 17 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in the following wards: Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Lake Zone (Turkana), Nanaam (Turkana), Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Tembeilo (Uasin Gishu), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Chemundu (Nandi), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Kisa East (Kakamega), Nyamaiya (Nyamira), Ekerenyo (Nyamira), Nyanisongo (Nyamira), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), and Kabuchai (Bungoma).

IEBC has since invited qualified Kenyans to apply as voter registration clerks nationwide and as poll officials serving in various roles for the by-elections in different electoral areas.

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications online via the IEBC Job Portal (https://jobs.iebc.or.ke) by October 16, 2025. Here, applicants can also access the detailed duties, responsibilities, and requirements for each category of vacant positions.

Only online applications will be considered; any form of canvassing will result in automatic disqualification. The IEBC also noted that successful candidates should be prepared to work extended hours, depending on the demands of the exercise.

This announcement comes shortly after the commission resumed its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, through which it intends to register 6.3 million new voters.

In the current phase, IEBC is targeting 10 percent of this number. The first enhanced CVR, covering 40 percent of the target, will begin after the November by-elections, with a second phase planned for the next financial year.
