IEBC Provides Update Ahead of Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued an update on the planned continuous voter registration.

In a statement on September 28, the IEBC announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The IEBC said Kenyans can register at any IEBC Constituency office, except in areas currently undergoing by-elections.

Some of the services offered include voter registration, correction, or update of voter details.

IEBC will also allow for the transfer of voter registration to a new electoral area 4.

Verification of voter details can be done via verify.iebc.or.ke

IEBC Eligibility to Register

  1. Kenyan citizen 18 years and above.
  2. Possess a valid Kenyan Identity Card (ID) or a valid Kenyan Passport.
  3. Not registered before as a voter.
  4. Not convicted of an election offence in the past five years.
  5. Not declared to be of unsound mind.

This exercise is a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections. It is particularly directed towards young people who have recently attained 18 years, and all citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information.

Voter registration is a continuous enrolment of voters into a register.

Article 88 of the Constitution requires the IEBC to carry out continuous registration of ci This is in line with its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon, noted that in readiness for the upcoming CVR exercise, the Commission has initiated a series of preparatory activities to ensure the process is efficient, inclusive, and transparent.

These activities are critical for laying a strong foundation for a successful nationwide rollout.

They include:

1.Mapping of Registration Centres: Verifying both existing and proposed centres to ensure accessibility across the country.

2. Stakeholder Engagements: Holding consultative forums at the constituency level to build awareness and promote participation.

3.Geospatial Data Consolidation: Collecting constituency, county, and national-level data to guide resource planning.

4.Preparation of Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) Kits: Configuring and testing KIEMS kits.

5.Gazettement of Officers: Official appointment of registration officers as required by law.

6.Training of Registration Personnel: Equipping field officers with necessary skills for effective service delivery.

7.Packaging and Distribution of Materials: Timely dispatch of registration materials to all operational areas.

8.Data Protection Compliance: Conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) to ensure full compliance with data protection laws.

9.Voter Education Activities: Rolling out voter education programs to inform and engage the public.

“Eligible Kenyans may register at any IEBC Constituency Office, except in areas currently with by-elections. Services available include new voter registration, transfer of voter registration to a new location, correction or update of voter details, and inspection of voter registration status,” said Ethekon.
