Former Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Chairperson, Anne Waceke Kiratu Makori, is the only lady appearing before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on April 28, 2026, for interviews for the position of Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Anne Waceke will be assessed alongside Court of Appeal Judge Justice Katwa Kigen and Justice Joseph Kiplagat Sergon.
The position fell vacant after the death of Judge Mohamed Ibrahim in late 2025.
Anne Waceke, Eyes Judge of the Supreme Court Position
On February 25, the Judicial Service Commission announced that it had received six applications for the position of Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya following the close of submissions on February 17, 2026.
Anne Waceke Kiratu Makori was among six applicants seeking appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Other applicants were Justice Joseph Kiplagat Sergon, Justice Warsame Abdulahi Mohammed, Justice Francis Kipruto Tuiyott, Katwa Kigen, and Lilian Wanjiku Wachira (Advocate).
Educational Background
Anne Waceke Kiratu Makori holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Pan African Christian University, obtained in 2011, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, awarded in 1989.
She later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law in 1990.

Thereafter, Anne Waceke was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1991, formally qualifying her to practice law in Kenya.
Career Life
From 2001 to 2006, Anne Waceke served as Head of Legal and Human Resources at The Standard Group Limited, where responsibilities included legal compliance and human resource management.
Between 2006 and 2014, Waceke held the position of General Manager – Legal, Human Resources, and Business Development at Faulu Microfinance Bank Limited, overseeing legal affairs and corporate growth.
From 2014 to 2018, she worked as an Advocate at Magunga Makori Advocates, providing legal representation and advisory services.

Between 2018 and 2024, Anne Waceke served as Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), leading institutional oversight of police accountability.
From 2024 to date, she has held the position of Managing Partner at Magunga, Makori Advocates, overseeing legal practice operations.
In 2025, Anne Waceke’s appointment to the Moi University Council followed, contributing to governance and institutional oversight.
Professional membership includes the Institute of Certified Human Resource Management and the Law Society of Kenya, reflecting continued involvement in legal and professional bodies.
