The Selection Panel for appointment as chairperson and members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has declared the positions vacant.
In a notice dated Thursday, February 20, 2025, the selection panel, invited qualified candidates to apply for the advertised positions.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 246(2)(a) of the Constitution and Section 5 of the National Police Service Commission Act 2011, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of Chairperson and Member of the National Police Service Commission as outlined below,” read the notice.
Qualifications for Appointment for Chairperson, NPS Commission
To be eligible for appointment as Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, a candidate must:

- Be a citizen of Kenya.
- Hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
- Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Not be, and have never been, a member of the National Police Service.
Member, National Police Service Commission (Retired Senior Police Officers – Two Vacancies)
To be eligible for appointment as a member of the commission in this category, a candidate must:
- Be a citizen of Kenya.
- Hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
- Be a retired police officer from either the Kenya Police Service or the Administrative Police Service.
- Have held the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police or above.
- Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Member, National Police Service Commission (Persons of Integrity – Two Vacancies)
To be eligible for appointment as a member of the commission in this category, a candidate must:

- Be a citizen of Kenya.
- Hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya.
- Have at least ten (10) years of experience in any of the following disciplines:
- Finance and Administration
- Economics
- Human Resource Development and Management
- Public Administration
- Labour Laws
- Law
- Human Rights
- Ethics and Governance
- Mediation and Consensus Building
- Change Management
- Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
- Not be, and have never been, a member of the National Police Service.
- Have had a distinguished career in their respective field.
Disqualification Criteria
The notice also outlined the circumstances under which an applicant may be disqualified.
A person shall not be qualified for nomination as Chairperson or Member of the National Police Service Commission if they:
- Are, or have been within the last five years, a Member of Parliament or a County Assembly. (This criterion ceases to apply after one general election has been held since the person left office.)
- Are currently serving as a State Officer.
- Are a member of the governing body of a political party.
- Are an undischarged bankrupt.
- Have been convicted of a felony.
- Have been removed from office for contravening the Constitution or any other law.

Important Notes for Applicants
- The names of shortlisted candidates will be published in print media.
- Shortlisted candidates must present originals of the following documents during interviews:
- National Identity Card.
- Academic and professional certificates and transcripts.
- Any other supporting documents and testimonials.
- Clearances from:
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
- Any registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
- Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) – Police Clearance Certificate
- A letter of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for degrees obtained from foreign universities.
- Recommendations from relevant professional bodies (where applicable).
- Salaries and benefits for these positions have been determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
- The Chairperson and Members of the Commission will serve a non-renewable term of six (6) years.
