Major Shake-Up at NPS as Adamson Bungei Leaves Nairobi Post

The National Police Service (NPS) has moved Nairobi’s long-serving Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei in a major reshuffle.

Bungei has been moved to take up a new role at the police headquarters as the Director of Operations.

In Bungei’s place, Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah has been transferred to take on the role of the Nairobi Regional Police Commander.

The announcement made by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja marks a significant shift in the leadership structure of the NPS.

Further, Kanja has moved several other high-ranking officers to other key positions across the country, noting that the changes were normal and meant to enhance operations in the service.

Dr Resila Onyango and Other Officers Affected

On the other hand, Kiambu Police Commander Michael Nyaga Muchiri has been appointed as the new NPS Spokesperson, replacing Dr. Resila Onyango.

Dr. Onyango, who previously served in the spokesperson role, has been reassigned as the Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit.

Also, Kwale County Police Commander Ali Nuno has been promoted to replace Sedah as the Coast Regional Police Commander.

The reshuffle also sees several senior officers within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) moved to new roles. Amos Omuga, the head of legal at the DCI, has been transferred to the NPS headquarters at Jogoo House, maintaining the same position.

Dr Mwangi Wanderi, who led the National Forensics Laboratory at the DCI, has been appointed as the Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House, replacing Rosemary Kuraru, who now heads the National Forensics Laboratory at DCI.

Meanwhile, Michael Sang, the head of the Serious Crime Unit at DCI, has been reassigned to the Eastern region as the regional head of DCI, where he will oversee criminal investigations in the area.

Other Changes Made at NPS

Several other key leadership changes have been made, including the redeployment of Commandant Rhoda Kinanu from the Diplomatic Police Unit to police headquarters.

Additionally, Daniel Korir, the former head of the Eastern regional DCI, has been appointed the Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU), a critical position responsible for overseeing security at Kenya’s major airports.

In another significant shift, Judy Jebet has been appointed the new head of Community Policing, replacing John Gachomo, who has been redeployed to police headquarters.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja emphasized that the changes are part of a broader effort to ensure that the police service remains responsive, effective, and capable of addressing the dynamic security needs of the country.
