Police Recruitment 2025: NPS Clarifies Viral Advert Announcing Dates & Requirements

The National Police Service (NPS) issued a statement on Wednesday, January 29, clarifying the viral job advertisement circulating on social media that purportedly announced a recruitment drive for police constables in 2025.

In its statement, the NPS flagged the advertisement as fake.

The Commission stated that the mandate to recruit and appoint persons to serve in the NPS rests solely with it, as provided under Article 246(3)(a) of the Constitution of Kenya. Any communication regarding police recruitment can only originate from the Commission.

“The Commission is currently engaging with key stakeholders in preparation for a legitimate recruitment process, in line with its constitutional mandate,” read the statement in part.

Additionally, the Commission will issue an official announcement regarding the next police constable recruitment exercise through established and credible Communication channels.

The misleading post had claimed that the NPS would be recruiting 10,000 police constables, with the recruitment process scheduled to begin on February 3, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at designated constituency-based recruitment centers across the country.

The fraudulent advertisement outlined several entry requirements for candidates wishing to participate in the recruitment.

According to the fake post, applicants were required to meet the following criteria:

  • Be Kenyan citizens with a minimum KCSE grade of D+ (Plus).
  • Have proficiency in English or Kiswahili, with additional knowledge of other local languages being advantageous.
  • Fulfill the integrity requirements outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution.
  • Be between the ages of 18 to 30 years, with provisions made for persons with disabilities.
  • Female candidates were required to not be pregnant during the recruitment and training phases.
  • The recruitment also welcomed applications from professionals across various fields, including forensic scientists, counselors, and technical trades, in an effort to build a diverse and skilled police force.

The misleading ad further claimed that candidates were required to collect and complete prescribed application forms from Police County Headquarters, Sub-County Commanders’ offices, and the NPS website (www.npsc.go.ke).
