NYS Announces Permanent and Pensionable Jobs for Diploma and Degree Holders

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced 750 permanent and pensionable job vacancies for Kenyans in various categories, including drivers, engineers, technicians and general duty staff.

In a notice dated by the NYS Commandant General, James K. Tembur, on March 3, NYS declared 250 Cadet Officer positions and 500 Private vacancies targeting ex-NYS servicemen and women.

“The National Youth Service is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of private and cadet officers in the following categories,” read part of the National Youth Service statement in part.

Successful candidates will earn salaries and allowances in line with the NYS salary scale and will be covered under the SHA Scheme of Civil Servants.

Additionally, all applicants are expected to submit their applications by March 18, 2026.

“The applications should reach the undersigned not later than 18th March, 2026,” the notice advised.

According to the issued notice, the body advertised 250 Cadet Officer positions on permanent and pensionable terms of service.

To qualify for the listed positions, one must fulfil the following;

  • Be a Kenyan citizen;
  • Cadets must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum KCSE grade of C+ (plus);
  • Minimum of KCSE grade C– (Minus) for Diploma;
  • Privates must possess KCSE grade D+ (plus) and MUST have NYS Discharge Certificate;
  • Have a valid Kenyan National Identity Card (ID) and KRA PIN Certificate;
  • Aged between 18 and 28 years;
  • Have no criminal record;
  • Candidates must be medically fit.
  • Successful candidates MUST undergo NYS Paramilitary training for nine (9) months;
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution;
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.

Requirements for the privates to be recruited include;

  • A minimum of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education D+ (plus) or its approved equivalent;
  • Must have undergone the initial NYS Paramilitary Training;
  • Have National Trade Test, Craft or Diploma Certificate in the above-listed courses;
  • Have no criminal record;
  • Senior Service Man/Woman (I and II) certificate required for General Duty Cadre.

Application Procedure

The notice stated that applicants with the listed requirements are required to download and complete the Application for Employment Form – PSC.2 (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website.

Further, it stated that duly completed application forms should be submitted through any one of the following methods:

(i) Through email to: [email protected]
(ii) Through post office: Send the form in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the title of the position applied for to:

(iii) Sealed hand-delivered applications can be dropped at the Registry – National Youth Service Headquarters, Ruaraka, Thika Road, Ground Floor.
