Former KNUT Boss Wilson Sossion Shortlisted for TSC Job

Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion is among 33 candidates shortlisted for interviews for the position of member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The shortlist was released on May 25 by the Selection Panel overseeing recruitment for two vacant positions at the commission under the Teachers Service Commission Act and the Constitution of Kenya.

“The Selection Panel received applications for the vacancy in the Teachers Service Commission and shortlisted candidates to appear for an interview for the position of Two (2) Members, Teachers Service Commission (TSC). The list of ALL the applicants for interview can be accessed on the website of the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs website: www.psyg.go.ke,” the TSC notice read in part.

Wilson Sossion, Former PS Nabukwesi in Race for TSC Commissioner Positions

According to the TSC notice, Wilson Sosion, a former nominated Member of Parliament, is scheduled to appear before the interview panel on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Wilson Sosion is a Kenyan legislator, educator, and trade unionist best known for leading the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and later serving in Parliament.

Born in 1969 in Pokot County, Sosion later moved with his family to Bomet County. He studied Education at Egerton University before beginning his career as a secondary school teacher in the Rift Valley region.

He joined KNUT professionally in 2001 as Executive Secretary of the Bomet branch and steadily rose through the union leadership ranks before becoming Secretary General in 2013.

During his tenure at KNUT, Wilson Sosion became one of the country’s most prominent union leaders, often leading negotiations and disputes involving teachers, salaries, and education policy.

In 2017, he entered Parliament as a nominated MP under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), representing workers’ interests and focusing on education and labor-related matters.

Former PS Nabukwesi

Also shortlisted is Simon Nabukwesi, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Canada and former Principal Secretary, who is expected to appear for interviews on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Ambassador Nabukwesi is a Kenyan career diplomat and senior public servant who previously served as Principal Secretary for the State Department for University Education and Research in the Ministry of Education.

He studied at Friends School Kamusinga before joining Kenyatta University, where he trained as a teacher. Between 1989 and 2000, he worked in the education sector, including serving as Principal of Friends School Kamusinga.

Nabukwesi later joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, where he served for about 11 years in various senior diplomatic roles.

His assignments included serving as Director of the Foreign Service Institute, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Canada, envoy to Cuba, and head of the Europe and Commonwealth Directorate.

In February 2020, former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him Principal Secretary for University Education and Research, where he oversaw university financing, research, and higher education policy until he left office in December 2022.
