Azimio La Umoja-Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua raised eyebrows after they walked out of a meeting with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after Deputy President William Ruto arrived.
Raila and Karua had attended the meeting from the start, but DP Ruto was conspicuously missing.
When all signs were clear that Ruto was within the Windsor hotel which was hosting the meeting, Raila and Karua excused themselves and left
Moments later ,Ruto walked into the meeting.
Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok and UDA secretary General Veronica Maina were representing Ruto at the meeting before he arrived.
Karua told IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati that the Azimio team had to leave the meeting to attend to other engagements.
Earlier in the meeting Karua had taken IEBC to task over the issue of excluding the physical voter register from the voting process in the August polls.
Few minutes later, Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah and his team also left the venue
The Azimio team is proposing the use of the physical register as an alternative in case the digital voter identification system fails.
Chebukati promised that the commission will make available the registers, but their use will depend on the outcome of an outgoing court case.
Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah and Agano party’s David Waihiga were also present at the meeting.
All parties present asked the IEBC to allow them to assess the process of downloading the digital register onto the digital voter identification kits.
The parties also want the IEBC to provide details on the printing of ballot papers
They also want political party agents to be allowed to take pictures of result forms at the polling station, something the commission promised to look into.
Parties also called on the IEBC to allow them have at least two agents in every polling station as opposed to one.
