Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko now says that he can make Polycarp Igathe win the Nairobi gubernatorial race.
Sonko says the easiest way for Igathe to win the race is by working with him.
Speaking during an interview with TV 47 on Thursday night, Sonko said he only needs one month to make Igathe Nairobi governor.
He further added that Igathe would have been the automatic City governor had he not resigned as his deputy
“If Igathe would have worked with me,he would definitely be the next Nairobi governor,” Sonko said.
” The 40 per cent Igathe is now fighting for would have been easy to get,” he added.
Sonko blamed Igathe for not taking that advantage if he knew he wanted to be in the contest.
Igathe resigned as Sonko’s deputy governor in 2018.
He is seeking to become Nairobi governor on a jubilee party ticket.
Igathe is facing stiff competition from UDA candidate and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
Recent opinion poll listings have placed Igathe behind Sakaja.
Igathe is banking on Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s support to win his support base in the City
Sonko on the other hand says he still has hopes of being allowed to contest in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
