Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as “Baba Yao,” is a Kenyan politician who has held various political positions throughout his career. His journey has been characterized by influence and controversy, making him a prominent figure in politics.

Waititu was born in 1962 in Kibera, Nairobi County.

He attended Dagoretti High School where he sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.
He further studied at the Technical University of Kenya before moving to Punjab University in Chandigarh, India, where he earned his degree.
Career and Political Background
Waititu has vast experience in Kenyan politics and leadership, which has greatly influenced his political career.
He began his political journey in 2002 when he was elected as the Councilor for Njiru Ward. He later served as the Deputy Mayor of Nairobi and went on to hold the position of Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation during former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration.
From 2008 to 2013, Waititu served as a Member of Parliament for Embakasi. However, he was suspended from his government job over claims of incitement and hate speech.
He later vied for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2013 but lost to former Governor Evans Kidero.
He later decided to vie for the Kabete parliamentary seat after the death of George Muchai who was the area Member of Parliament.

He won the elections making him the Kabete Member of Parliament until 2017 when he announced his aspiration to run for the Governor of Kiambu.
He secured the seat, beating the then incumbent William Kabogo in 2017, becoming the elected Kiambu Governor.
However, his tenure did not last long, as he faced allegations of corruption and mismanagement leading to his impeachment in 2020.
The Senate upheld the impeachment, and he was removed from office.
In 2024, he resurfaced after being arrested on allegations of incitement.
He claimed that the arrest was politically motivated and was a result of his remarks regarding the impeachment case of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
