From School Debate Star to NTV Big Screen; The Story of Mariam Bishar

The rising star of Mariam Bishar is a tale of talent, passion and versatility, having shown her potential in media from an early age. When NTV announced that Bishar would be co-hosting a new show alongside seasoned journalist Eric Latiff and celebrated queen of the screen Janet Mbugua, it caught many by surprise but not those who know her. 

Mariam Bishar is not a new face at the Nation Media Group; she is a popular voice on Nation FM, Monday to Friday together with the talented Brian Aseli.

Bishar also features on The Trend, an entertainment magazine show, where she sometimes hosts or is part of the panel. 

Education

She studied at Buru Buru Girls High School, domiciled in Nairobi’s Eastlands, where she sat her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education – KCSE.

She later joined the University of Nairobi, Kenya’s premier public university, where she pursued a degree in Economics.

Her eloquence and prowess in public speaking skills were sharpened in her High School days.

While in form two she decided to form a debate club, later in Form Three, she challenged herself by leading her school, Buru Buru Girls, to participate in the Great Debaters Contest.

Unfortunately, her school lost to Aga Khan, but this did not diminish her pursuit of aiming higher, she continued to push herself to greater heights.

She was disappointed but took consolation, that an initiative she had started had reached finals.

In 2013 after completing her high School studies, a door opened, and the organizers of the Great Debaters Contest, where she landed a job as a host.

This would later prove to be a demanding journey for the young and ambitious Bashar, who had to juggle between work and campus life.

 Mariam Bishar Career Journey

NTV announced on January 31, 2025, that Mariam was part of the gang to drive the new kid on the block, Fixing the Nation, setting the stage for cutthroat competition during morning hours. 

“Fixing The Nation with Eric Latiff, Janet Mbugua and Mariam Bishar is coming to you this Monday, February 3 from 6 am to 10 am,” NTV announced.

Immediately after completing her high school studies, at age 19, Mariam Bishar was the host of the Great Debaters Show that was aired on national broadcaster, KBC.

Her appearance on television for the first time made her confident and enthusiastic about new assignments in hosting more shows and hopes that she will one day host the Presidential Debate. 

Additionally, she was Lit 360 TV presenter where she did not disappoint.

She also hosted a podcast dubbed Hadithi Hadithi, telling inspirational stories that have impressed her fanbase.
